THERMACULTURE® GROUP / FIELD RESEARCH

Learning from the room, and the people in it

At Thermaculture Group, we bring a guiding thesis to our field research: the room and the way it is hosted should make space for ease, recovery and connection.

Nervous system research informs our questions, including the role of parasympathetic activity in rest and recovery. Through building and hosting, we explore how air, warmth, humidity, quiet and the rhythm of a session shape the guest experience.

Air and humidity

How does the room respond to guests, steam and repeated sessions?

We observe how conditions change as guests arrive, doors open, steam is introduced and the room moves through a session. We also consider what happens between sessions and after closing.

02 /

Warmth and comfort

How do seating, airflow, sound and light shape comfort?

We listen to how guests describe the heat and notice where they choose to sit. We pay attention to the balance of warmth, airflow, sound and light.

Moisture and care

What does daily cleaning, drying and wear teach us?

We observe drying, cleaning and wear through repeated use. The work of caring for a room helps reveal questions that drawings alone may miss.

A journey with room to recover

Clear guidance, choice of pace and a welcoming place to pause.

We plan for arrival, heat, cooling, rest and return. Guests need clear guidance, freedom to choose their pace and a welcoming place to pause.

We listen to how people describe comfort, ease and connection. We look for where the journey feels supportive and where it creates friction. Those observations help us refine the next room and the next session.

Questions that shape the next room

Use what we learn to refine the next room and session.

These observations help us refine our design questions, hosting practice and priorities for further study.

We share findings when we have work ready to publish.
